At the start of the first episode of Girly Air Force, a mysterious looking airplane known as the Xi is attacking a civilian ship! Everyone runs to the nearest emergency boat.
His name is Kei and he is accompanied by a girl. They both escape from the ship before it blows up.
Kei watches as another plane attacks the Xi! It’s colored in a bright red color.
The red plane finishes off the Xi, but it has to have an emergency landing in the ocean.
Kei swims out to the plane in order to make sure the pilot is okay.
The plane’s hatch opens up and Kei finds a young girl inside. And, she kisses him!
Kei remembers his crazy day the next morning. He’s living with the girl from the ship. Her name is Minghua.
Kei and Minghua are very close friends. They are both Chinese refugees living in Japan. During their evacuation from their hometown, Minghua was separated from her parents.
Minghua has been very uptight lately. And when she finds a pamphlet about Japan’s air force academy, she yells against the idea to Kei.
Kei leaves the house to cool off his temper. Outside, he sees the red plane that had saved him! He follows it.
Minghua finds Kei standing outside the air force base. She cries and pleads to Kei to not join as he’s the only person that she knows in Japan. She’s scared and lonely.
But all of a sudden, a black van screeches to a stop and kidnaps them!
Kei wakes up and finds a man pointing a gun at him. The man demands to know who sent Kei and why he was waiting outside their base.
Before the man “shoots,” the red airplane roars its engine.
The lights turn on. The man explains that he was never going to shoot. He just wanted to test the connection between the plane and Kei. Connection?
His name is Director Yashirodoori, and he’s the head of the Special Technology Research Office.
The plane is a Swedish fighter called the JAS39.
And the plane is auto-piloted by an autonomous device called “Anima.”
