At the start of the twenty-fourth episode of Food Wars (the final episode of season 1!), we see a memory of when Joichiro tells Soma to not lose to anyone else until he beats him.

Megumi’s group has finished being judged, and Megumi moves on to the next round!

In Group B, Alice, Hisako, Takumi and Megumi passed. Isami was the first to not move on.

And meanwhile in Group A, Hayama and Soma are facing off! Hayama just unveiled his flavor-bomb dish!

His dish was originally devised by Paul Bocuse, a preeminent French chef.

And, amazingly, Hayama was able to incorporate fresh holy basil, an incredibly hard ingredient to procure and cook as it degrades very quickly.

The judges want Hayama to work for them after he graduates, but he replies that he only fights for Jun ^.^

Hayama’s dish scores 94 points, leaping him into first place.

Soma seems undeterred, though.

Because he has his own flavor-bomb dish! An omelet filled with spice-infused curry.

Similar to Hayama, Soma also included a special ingredient – mango chutney. Soma’s mango came from the Polar Star garden!

Although Soma has had numerous failures in the past, he has learned from all of them.

It’s truly a battle between the two students who aim for the top spot at Totsuki.

The judging is over, and Soma loses to Hayama by 1 point, placing him in second.

But wait! If this was an official shokugeki, Soma would actually be the victor because he has more higher points than Hayama does.

The judges fight over whose dish is the best.

There are diamonds in this Totsuki class.

Polar Star throws a party for everyone who participated and supported their friends in the Autumn Elections! ^.^

Erina stays in her office and works, though.

Megumi and Soma have a moment together, alone on the balcony.

Others watch ^.^ Nikumi is a little jealous.

Soma wants to be better, he wants to get to the top.

At the start of the twenty-third episode of Food Wars, the unthinkable is still happening – the judges in Group A are only giving out zeros!

Up next is Kurokiba Ryo’s dish.

A huge, plump, and delicious-looking lobster dish. Kurokiba’s secret ingredient is cognac.

Before the judges give their score, he tells them (quite fiercely) that his dish isn’t over yet. He brings out droppers of more cognac, and tells the judges to slurp the lobster meat out of the heads and then stuff themselves with more rice.

Kurokiba is quite “persuasive.”

Nikumi brings out a very plump meat and curry dish. The judges love it and try to stop themselves from eating the whole dish (in order to save room).

Nikumi’s rice perfectly complimented her meat. She learned from her shokugeki with Soma that a don must be a complete unison of flavors.

The judges love Ryoko Sakaki’s salt curry dish, too! ^.^

And now its Marui’s turn!

Marui’s club members support him and his dish.

Marui presents a very white curry pasta dish. Interesting!

Marui’s dish was first created by Louis Diat in 1917.

Marui is the Professor of Taste ^.^

Ibusaki Shun presents his special smoked curry dish. In fact, everything on the plate has been smoked.

Ibusaki is the Prince of Smoke!

And now the moment we’ve all been waiting for – Hayama and Soma’s dishes!

At the start of the twenty-second episode of Food Wars, Hojo Miyoko just received an outstanding score for her pineapple, curry fried rice.

Hojo walks aggressively past Megumi.

Yuki Yoshino’s duck curry received high praise from the judges.

Isami Aldini prepares a curry-infused calzone for the judges! Yum!

It’s delicious and receives a high score!

Takumi Aldini is up next, and he also prepares a pasta dish. It looks very ordinary, though.

We find out that it’s anything but ordinary! Takumi infused cheese in between each noodle strand. And his curry topping is second to none.

Takumi is a pioneer of food!

Takumi has always wanted to beat his brother, but he’ll have to wait another day.

Utilizing thermo sense techniques, Alice creates an unbelievable curry dish.

Alice receives 95 points!

Everyone forgot about Megumi’s dish 😦 Thankfully, she courageously informs the announcer and judges that her dish still needs to be evaluated.

Megumi’s monkfish, curry stew is a hit with the judges! ^.^

Megumi was really nervous, but produced an amazing dish that allowed her to move on to the next round in the Autumn Elections!

Oh no! At the start of the twenty-first episode of Food Wars, it looks like Soma is sleeping during the Autumn Elections! How will he cook his dish if he’s not awake?

Thankfully Soma wakes up as soon as his spices give off the right smell. His nose is in-tune, but is it better than Hayama’s?

Fumio and the other uninvited Polar Star members cheer on their friends.

Megumi unveils a giant monkfish!

Although it’s nearly twice her size, Megumi masterfully cuts down the fish.

Time is up! It’s time for the students to present their dishes to the judges.

The hall’s announcer is Kawashima Urara ^.^

The first student is an unknown student who presents a nice looking curry dish.

The judges love it! They highly compliment the student for his dish. But wait! His score is 33 out of 100!

The judges very harshly tell the student that his dish is respectable as a student, but not as a professional chef…

Nao Sadatsuka is the next chef. How will her dish fair?

Oh no! Her dish is incredibly smelly! The whole arena is filled with a disgusting pungency.

Her dish is the infamous kusaya.

Nao’s cooking specialities revolve around horror.

And her dish scores the highest result so far!

Hisako’s dish is next.

Hisako previously faced Nao in a shokugeki in order to put a restraining order on between Nao and Erina. Hisako won, but Nao is hoping that her kusaya dish in the Autumn Elections will change Erina’s mind and choose her over Hisako.

Hisako specializes in medicinal dishes. And the judges love her curry dish!

Nao tries Hisako’s dish too, and immediately becomes Sadatsuka Nao – her white form ^.^

Not only does Hisako score the highest score but also wins the heart of Nao.

At the start of the twentieth episode of Food Wars, Soma, Megumi and the other Polar Star members have begun prepping for their Autumn Elections dish. It’s a stressful time, yet each is looking out to the horizons, excited to see what they can accomplish.

Everyone at Totsuki is gearing up for the event that could put their name at the top, the top of Totsuki ^.^

Takumi, Megumi and other students are returning home for the summer.

Nao Sadatsuka, Erina’s admirer (or should we say stalker), is cooking up something special!

Megumi is back home and her neighbors are really excited about it!

Soma stays at Polar Star for most of the summer, spending countless sleepless nights testing his dish.

Hayama is perfecting his spices – he’s going to be a tough competitor to beat.

The day has arrived! It’s time for the Autumn Elections to begin! The invited students gather in the Elite Ten’s Shokugeki arena.

Isami looks completely different! He’s lost so much wait over the summer.

Senzaemon Nakiri, Totsuki’s chairman, begins the cooking competition with an energizing speech – the students are ready!

There are thirty students in each group, and only four students from each hall move on to the next round.

Famous chefs and culinary experts judge the event – noticeably, the famous twins Sendaira and Sendawara.

Alice has brought complex and technologically-advanced cooking apparatuses to the elections.

Ryo Kurokiba may seem like a docile chef, but when he puts his headband on (similar to Soma), he becomes a completely different person.

The Autumn Elections have just begun, but it’s going to be a tough competition to win. We’re rooting for you, Soma!!

At the start of the nineteenth episode of Food Wars, we see Erina and Isshiki debating about something in a dark board room. Wait, is this an Elite Ten meeting?

It is! And they’re discussing whether or not Soma should be invited to an event. Erina is objecting to his invitation, while Isshiki is defending his credentials and accolades.

Another Elite Ten member, Eizan Etsuya, also thinks Soma is worthy of an invitation.

The next day there is a huge announcement. The covering on a billboard comes off and we see that there is an announcement for the Autumn Elections. It has the names of the students who are invited to participate!

The selected students are divided into two groups, A and B. Thankfully Soma and a majority of the Polar Star members were accepted ^.^

The Autumn Elections also have announcers! The main announcer is a really cute student named Kawashima Urara. All of the guys love her, but the girls are quite envious of her…

Unfortunately, a couple guys are saying mean things about Megumi – how they can’t believe that she was invited.

Thankfully, a serious, pro-women girl protects Megumi and scares them off.

But when she finds out that Soma, a boy, had helped her in her shokugeki against Shinomiya, she leaves angrily.

Erina has an admirer, who likes to watch Erina from afar.

The Polar Star members receive a letter for the Autumn Elections. The topic for the cooking tournament will be curry!

Soma remembers his dad talking about one of his school friends, who is now a professor at Totsuki, who studied curry. He and Megumi try to find her, but her office is in the middle of nowhere (and is very shabby).

As soon as Soma tells professor Shiomi that he’s Joichiro’s son, she punches him!

Joichiro had made Shiomi be his taste tester of his disgusting creations…

Shiomi’s assistant is another first-year student named Hayama Akira.

Hayama is a master of not only curry, but all things relating to spices. Just as Erina has the God Tongue, Hayama has the God Nose.

Hayama can cook without looking. His nose can tell when a dish is ready.

Hayama remembers how Soma told everyone that he’ll take the top spot at at Totsuki. But Hayama differs. He acclaims that only the chef who has mastery over spices can climb to the top spot at Totsuki.

The chef to get to the top spot at Totsuki will be him, Hayama.

And Hayama tells Soma that he’ll show his dominance at the Autumn Elections, as both he and Soma are in the same hall.

The karaage war is raging on in the eighteenth episode of Food Wars! Soma, Ikumi, and Karuse are getting ready for their fight, but will they be victorious? ^.^

The friends notice that one major drawback of Mozuya’s karaage is that it comes in a box meant to be reheated at home – you can’t walk around and eat your karaage in the nice transportation station.

The friends decide to combat Mozuya’s takeout karaage with Walk-n-Eat karaage!

But in order for this plan to work, they need to figure out the best way to hold the steaming hot karaage.

Soma brings his notes to help the team brainstorm. Sorry Nikumi!

The town’s chairman shows up unexpectedly; he has a new idea that he thinks can save their Sumire Avenue district!

Oh, it’s just a karaage rice ball… ^.^

The plan is set! The team will launch their plan tomorrow; each member is playing a crucial role in their success. They’re all in this together!

Even the chairman is helpful ^.^

The next day, business seems slightly slower for Nakamozu. And, strangely, a lot of people are passing by Mozuya’s with a pastry-looking dish.

Nakamozu is furious upon hearing that her store’s sales are down by 20%! She’s seeing more of those pastry dishes too. She thinks it might be related to the Sumire Avenue shopping district. She goes there to investigate.

To her surprise (and dismay), she’s found the source of the pastry dishes – Sumire Avenue! And they’re not pastries, but karaage dishes!

Soma explains that their success was a group effort – the whole town came together to take down Mozuya’s.

The friends are really happy ^.^

Soma asks Karuse if she could help the chairman cook karaage when he goes back to Totsuki. She’s really happy that Soma thinks highly of her; she had originally thought Soma never noticed her while they were at the same school together.

The eighteenth episode ends with Sumire Avenue’s karaage receiving a higher score on television than Mozuya’s. Good job, Soma!

At the start of the seventeenth episode of Food Wars, we are back in Soma’s hometown! ^.^ A childhood friend of Soma’s, Kurase, and her friends are walking by the closed Yukihira diner. Kurase’s friends tease her for still liking Soma.

All of the sudden, Soma opens the door to his family’s diner!

Soma is back home for school break. And once word (really quickly) spreads around town that Soma is back, a huge crowd shows up asking for classic Yukihira food. It’s time to cook!

After the neighbors and customers leave, the town’s mayor, Tomita Yuya , sulks about the town’s current predicament.

No one has been coming to the town’s food district ever since a competing karaage vendor opened up in the city’s transportation station.

Soma, determined to help his town and friends, proclaims that they’re going to get their customers back with their own karaage recipe!

Kurase “volunteers” to help Soma ^.^

Soma also calls Ikumi for help. As she’s a meat expert, her assistance would be invaluable in this karaage endeavor.

Ikumi and Karuse meet the next day at Soma’s diner.

Ikumi and Karuse are both surprised that Soma invited someone else. Karuse is more scared whereas Ikumi is more angry ^.^

The three check out the karaage restaurant. There, they unexpectedly see the town’s mayor in an undercover outfit.

They also meet the karaage restaurant’s empress, Nakamozu Kinu.

After their reconnaissance, the chefs begin experimenting different karaage recipes. Unfortunately, each dish falls short of Mozuya’s karaage.

Mozuya has been able to expand so quickly because Nakamozu has been working with a consultant.

Soma remembers Karuse saying that they should capitalize on their town’s own strengths, which helps Soma think of a plan!

It’s not over yet! Let’s bring back our customers! ^.^

At the start of the sixteenth episode of Food Wars, a rematch is occurring. Joichiro’s surprise visit seems to coincide with a desire to see how much his son, Soma, has learned so far at Totsuki.

Who will win this match? ^.^

Similar to an official shokugeki, there are three judges to taste test the dishes – Fumio, Isshiki, and Megumi.

Soma recalls that his first match against his dad was in sixth grade!

Megumi asks how many times he’s beat his dad. Soma acts nonchalant, but Joichiro reminds him that he’s lost nearly 500 times without one win!

Soma never gives up.

Soma finishes his dish and presents it to the judges – apple-flavored risotto.

The judges loved Soma’s dish, but here comes Joichiro’s. Although the three taste testers were imagining a gourmet dish cooked by a master chef, Joichiro hands them ramen! And it’s a very thick looking ramen, which doesn’t seem that appealing given it’s only 6 in the morning!

But, it’s delicious. Albeit the broth’s thick appearance, it’s incredibly light! And there’s so many flavors from around the world in the dish!

And, amazingly, Joichiro’s rich-tasting ramen did not include animal stock! The beef flavor came from only vegetables!

The winner is unanimous – Joichiro.

Whereas Soma’s dish tried to minimize the possibility of not meeting the judges’ individual needs, Joichiro’s dish tried to maximize their satisfaction.

Joichiro and Soma communicate through cooking. Soma’s dad tells him to not lose to anyone else before he beats him. Soma agrees.

Joichiro leaves Totsuki.

While Erina is driving in her car, she thinks she sees Joichiro. She tells the driver to stop, and she immediately leaves the car, hoping to see him.

It was just her imagination.

At the start of the 15th episode of Food Wars, the Totsuki students who survived the camp activities are celebrating by eating a gourmet course personally prepared by alumni and staff. A great way to end a really hard few days!

On their way out to the buses, Megumi and Soma say bye to Shinomiya. No hard feelings ^.^

Shinomiya is back to being determined. His new goal is for SHINO’s to receive a triple star Michelin award.

Meanwhile, the alumni are trying to convince the students to work for their restaurants after graduation.

While Soma is leaving, he reminds Gin of his old friend and classmate, Joichiro.

Time to head back to school! Goodbye, camp!

Soma forgot his headband in his room, so he rushes back to retrieve it. Unfortunately, he can’t find his original bus.

Oh no! Before Soma realizes it, all of the buses left. He got left behind…

But, one other student didn’t make it into the buses either ^.^ Erina!

Soma gets to ride with Erina in a private car back to school.

The Polar Star students make it back to their dorm ^.^ They smell food cooking in the kitchen; did Fumio cook them a celebratory dinner? No! It’s Joichiro who is cooking, and he’s prepared an elaborate selection of gourmet cuisine, highlighting dishes from around the world.

After dinner, Soma stays behind to talk to his dad about his time at Totsuki and at Polar Star.

Joichiro wakes Soma up the next morning at 5:30am! He tells Soma to come down to the kitchen with his knives.

It’s a surprise cook-off! Joichiro wants to see how much Soma has improved. Will Soma finally defeat his dad, a former second seat who was known as the “demon?” Find out next time ^.^
