At the start of the fourteenth episode of Food Wars, Soma realizes that his dish has a fatal flaw: dishes are not always immediately taken at buffets. Therefore, the dish could sit out for a long time.

Soma’s souffle omelettes have all deflated and look very unappealing. He has to think of a solution, and quick!

Meanwhile, Soma’s peers are succeeding. Alice’s strangely “simple” dish is attracting huge crowds. It turns out that her dish is anything but ordinary. Each dish looks normal but has a clever twist.

Other students are beginning to finish their 200 dishes. Go Megumi! ^.^

Time is running out! Soma, hurry!

Soma never gives up. He takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, and thinks of a plan. Step 1 – attract one customer.

Step one is complete. Now Soma has to put it into gear. He begins cooking in a very fast and dramatic fashion, a technique called “live cooking.” When a customer watches a chef in action, it increases their anticipation of the dish.

Soma is attracting more and more customers. But he’s still running out of time.

All of the judges are watching Soma.

The other Totsuki students are watching Soma, too.

Soma did it! 200 dishes, completed! ^.^

Alice and Erina are both surprised that Soma was able to serve 200 customers in time. We find out that Alice, Erina’s cousin, moved away as a child to a cold country.

Soma learned from failure ^.^

The students are suddenly called to congregate in the lobby. Oh no! Is this another surprise exam?

Gin speaks. Brace yourself.

It’s a good surprise! The camp is over, and the Totsuki alumni are serving the surviving students a gourmet meal! ^.^

But, at the end of the episode, we hear Gin and the professors talking about an upcoming event, an event that will be more challenging and strenuous than the camp…

At the start of the thirteenth episode of Food Wars, the Polar Star members all successfully “return” from camp. But, thankfully, this scene is just in Isshiki’s imagination, for everyone looks a little different…

In reality, the camp is still going on! And our Polar Star members are hard at working perfecting their craft and avoiding expulsion.

A mysterious white-haired girl walks past Erina.

As Soma and his friends are about to retire to bed, an unexpected announcement aires on the intercom. It’s Gin! And he’s telling everyone to come down to the hall in their uniforms. What is going on?

Oh no! Gin announces that there will be a breakfast exam tomorrow morning. They will need to cook a dish that centers around the egg. And they only have tonight to practice.

It’s going to be a long night for everyone.

An egg dish reminds Soma of his entrance exam with Erina ^.^

Time to practice!

The mysterious white-haired girl, who we find out is Erina’s cousin Alice Nakiri, visits Soma with her intimidating friend. On their way back, Alice remarks that there’s no way that Soma will be successful in tomorrow’s exam.

It’s exam day! Each student receives a personal kitchen for cooking his or her dish. Erina’s area is right by Soma’s, coincidentally.

Soma tells Erina how he’ll be making a souffle omelet. Erina casts a condescending glare but reframes from saying anything. Why?

There are so many students that they are separated into two halls.

There is an unexpected turn! Hundreds of nearby neighbors, vendors, and farmers fill the halls. They are the judges of the breakfast exam, and each student has to feed 200 people or else they will fail!

Alice’s dish looks very ordinary from the outside, and it appears that no one is interested in trying it.

Erina’s dish is beautiful. An American-styled english muffin with fish row sprinkled on the bun. It’s drawing a huge crowd and applause.

But how is Soma doing?

Oh no! Soma has filled less than 10 plates! Will he be able to serve at least 200 customers before time runs out?

At the start of the twelfth episode of Food Wars, it is time for Megumi’s Rainbow Terrine to be judged. How will her dish compare to Shinomiya’s?

Although it wasn’t part of the shokugeki’s rules, Megumi made the same dish that Shinomiya had assigned for his class.

The judges love it! Not only is her dish aesthetically pleasing but also delicious!

The judges imagine Megumi hand picking her vegetables in the mountains.

Megumi is really happy that the judges like her dish. Now, onto the judging. Each judge has one coin, which will be placed on either Megumi’s dish or Shinomiya’s. The winner is the chef with the most coins.

While the judges place their coins, Megumi reminisces on her past experiences at Totsuki – she doesn’t want to leave her friends or school.

No. There are no coins on Megumi’s plate 😦

Shinomiya has won. Megumi and Soma will both be expelled.

But wait! Although judging has concluded, Gin drops a coin in Megumi’s plate!

Shinomiya thinks back to his past – his time at Totsuki and in France.

At the beginning, it was really hard for Shinomiya – starting a restaurant in a foreign land. His sous chefs began questioning his recipes, and word spread around town that SHINO’s was not credible. Making matters worse, he could barely afford to pay his vendors.

In order to keep SHINO’s alive, Shinomiya stayed on knife’s edge. He viewed everyone as his enemy, including his own employees. He could only trust himself.

Although Shinomiya succeeded, he lost his path along the way.

Megumi’s dish reminds him of this.

Shinomiya’s own coin drops on Megumi’s dish.

The judges talk about how Megumi incorporated allspice in her terrine.

Not only for extra flavor, but Megumi added allspice to her dish because it aids in digestion. She realized that the judges had taste tested other students’ dishes throughout the day, so she wanted to make something that was gentle for all to eat.

Hinako rushes to Megumi’s plate and drops a tying coin down! It’s a draw, Megumi and Soma are staying at Totsuki! ^.^

Once out of the basement, Megumi’s phone finally receives cellular service. She has so many missed calls from Polar Star members. She rushes back to assure them that everything is okay.

She thanks Soma before she leaves ^.^

Finally alone, Soma’s anger and sadness shows itself. He lost.

Soma was the only one who truly wanted to win the Shokugeki.

The other Polar Star members are mad that Soma was so reckless, but are equally thankful that both he and Megumi made it back.

The camp goes on! ^.^

At the start of the eleventh episode of Food Wars, Shinomiya is angrily objecting to Soma’s shokugeki proposition. How can he allow a student to pass that alters his recette?

Shinomiya says that in order for a shokugeki to be valid, both sides have to agree.

Gin shows up all of a sudden and “recommends” that Shinomiya take on Soma’s shokugeki ^.^

Megumi is really mad and thankful that Soma defended her. It means a lot to her. She wants to stay with him and the other Polar Star students.

The other Polar Star students aren’t sure where Soma and Megumi are. They’re wondering if they got into some trouble…

Due to Gin’s suggestion, the shokugki took place even though Shinomiya objected. And, as a result, Gin also recommends that Soma not take the lead in this shokugeki. He must support Megumi as her sous chef.

Megumi becomes really nervous.

Thankfully, Soma knew a quick way to get rid of nervousness – his dad taught him.

Shinomiya begins cooking his dish, but it seems like he’s not giving it his all.

Game time! Time to open up Tadokoro Diner!

Soma stays one step ahead of Megumi throughout her cooking – he doesn’t want her to feel pressured at all.

Shinomiya’s dish looks beautiful.

His dish shows how he was able to go to France alone and create an award-winning restaurant, SHINO’s.

Will Soma and Megumi’s dish be able to beat the Magician of Legume’s?

At the start of the tenth episode of Food Wars, Megumi and the other students are finishing up their fifty dinners for the manly foreigners. Megumi just finished and she’s really feeling like she can compete with her peers! ^.^

Meanwhile, Erina has just finished her time in the sauna and is walking back to her room when…

Soma accidentally bumps into Erina!

Hisako Arato, Erina’s secretary, is anything but pleased to find Soma talking to Erina.

When Soma arrives to the bath, he’s surprised to find someone else already there. He thought he was the first one to finish the fifty meal task.

It turns out to be Totsuki Head Chef Dojimia Gin!

Gin tells Soma how he usually tries to finish his bath before the students arrive. Coincidentally, there was a student last year that also finished his task early – this student is now the seventh seat of the Elite Ten (Isshiki).

Gin also tells Soma about Erina and her God Tongue.

Takumi Aldini shows up! He’s upset that he didn’t finish as fast as Soma.

The Polar Star students finally get to relax in their hotel room.

But it turns out some of the members want to party! ^.^

Megumi relates to her friends how she’s growing more comfortable at Totsuki.

The next day’s class is with Shinomiya, an award-winning chef based in France. Shinomiya owns his own restaurant, SHINO’s.

Their project is to follow his legume recipe. No partners this time. And if you help another student, you’re immediately expelled.

Every student has blood in their eyes – without partners, they realize this could be the end. It’s a mad dash to the ingredients.

Oh no! Megumi was a little late to the cauliflower stand, so all of the remaining heads have already oxidized. Will her dish be okay?

Soma’s dish passes.

But Megumi’s dish fails, and she is expelled…

Megumi had added vinegar to her dish in order to combat the yellow color of the oxidized cauliflower. As vinegar was not part of the recipe, Shinomiya would not stand for such obstruction to his dish.

Soma argues against Shinomiya’s decision. Shinomiya tells Soma that one more rebuttal and he gets expelled. Megumi holds him back.

Soma asks Shinomiya if “that Totsuki rule” still applies to alumni. What rule?

Shokugeki!!

Will Soma be able to beat a former 1st seat of the Elite Ten and save Megumi from expulsion? Find out next time ^.^

At the start of the ninth episode of Food Wars, we see a flashback of Takumi and Isami three years ago in Italy. They are in their family’s restaurant, which is run by their father and uncle. Their uncle wants them to transfer to Totsuki. Confused, Takumi ask why? But after realizing that it will make them both better chefs, the Aldini twins get excited to move to Japan.

Present Day. Takumi and Isami just received their passing grade for their grilled duck with herbs. Just like Soma, Takumi has been fighting on the front lines all this time. Takumi is still infuriated on the inside by Soma’s speech.

After witnessing the Aldini twins’ culinary masterpiece, Soma realizes that his original plan would not suffice. He tells Megumi that they have to go back outside and retrieve more ingredients. He gives Megumi a list of vegetables and herbs to collect.

And before they leave, Soma grabs one more ingredient…the professor’s cracker snack! Kaki-no-tane! ^.^

Soma wrestles with chickens outside. He collects a few of their eggs.

Meanwhile, other students are turning in their mediocre fish dishes. And, consequently, they are receiving failing remarks.

Takumi has been holding Soma’s cracker snack while they were outside. Upon returning, Takumi becomes so heated against Soma (in a friendly, competitor way ^.^), that he accidentally crushes the crackers.

Thankfully, that saved Soma time instead of him doing it!

Soma and Megumi creatively use the crackers as a breading for their fish! And they use the chicken eggs as a holder.

Their dish is complete. But how will the professor view it?

Totsuki alumni Hinako loves it! The vegetables that Megumi collected perfectly pair with the crunchy fish.

Is Soma’s dish better than Takumi’s? Or is it the other way around! What will Hinako say?

Hinako doesn’t give a definitive answer ^.^ Takumi leaves Soma behind, saying that they’ll meet again.

Sooner than he thought!

Soma is pleased that he joined Totsuki – there’s other students that are as good as him out there.

Thankfully all of the Polar Star students passed their exams!

But when they return to the hotel in the evening, they soon find out that they won’t have much time to rest while at camp – a group of massive Americans are standing before them.

Totsuki alumni Hitoshi tells the returning students that before they rest, they have to serve 50 dishes to their foreign friends. If they don’t within the next 60 minutes, they are expelled.

Soma finishes! He’s one of the first students to finish.

Soma decides to relax the rest of the night and take a quick trip to the sauna.

Soma accidentally bumps into Erina and falls on top of her! ^.^

At the end of the episode, Shinomiya is trying (in vain) to write something, but he can’t. He seems very distressed and angry.

At the start of the eighth episode of Food Wars, the teachers are talking about something that’s coming, something big, but what?

We find out from Marui that it’s time for the first years to go to camp. The cooking camp is an annual event which may look friendly by its invitation, but in reality, it’s one of the most grueling and stressful events that Totsuki students must endure. A bad remark during the camp leads to an immediate expulsion.

You can do this, Megumi!

Although it’s a frightening event, the Polar Star students are excited! They plan to all return to Polar Star and not be expelled.

The whole first year class embarks on their camp journey!

The students arrive to the camp site and see a gorgeous hotel! It’s one of the most luxurious and expensive hotels under the Totsuki brand.

The students file into the auditorium. An air of tension and excitement fills the hall.

A Totsuki professor welcomes the class to their camp. And, unexpectedly, Totsuki alumni fill the stage! They are all famous chefs who graduated at the top of their respective classes.

Shinomiya, a highly accomplished chef in France, expels a student for just using a smelly shampoo! Oh no, this camp is going to be anything but easy.

The hotel’s lead chef, and director of the camp, arrives. Chef Dojima Gin!

He wishes all of the students good luck in their camp activities. Everyone is excited to do their best.

Megumi and Soma are paired together for their first class. All of the classes are instructed by Totsuki alumni.

The students in this class have to cook a dish within a short time frame. Sounds easy, right? No, there are no ingredients in the room!

The students have to collect their own ingredients, whether livestock or vegetables, from the surrounding land!

Before Soma and Megumi start collecting their ingredients, a confident Italian student named Takumi Aldini confronts Soma. He strongly suggests that he and Soma use this class project as a duel to see which of them is the better chef. Soma accepts.

In stressful moments, it’s hard to clearly see a path. Most of the students become narrow minded with tunnel vision. As a result, the students return with only collecting fish and vegetables, Soma and Megumi included.

Soma and Megumi return to find Takumi and his twin brother, Isami, with a duck! They slightly mock the other students and their fish, saying how there were also rabbits and birds.

Without losing a moment’s time, the Aldini brothers quickly begin to dress the duck and cook their dish. The Aldini twins move effortlessly around their cutting boards, swiftly moving, each in-tune with their own and their partner’s movements – mastery at its finest.

The Aldini brothers are the first to finish, and their dish looks exquisite – grilled duck with herbs. And they successfully paired Japanese and Italian elements together.

A magnificent duck dish!

How will Soma confront his new challenger? ^.^

At the start of the seventh episode of Food Wars, it is almost time for Soma’s Shokugeki with Nikumi. Everyone at school is talking about it!

Megumi is really nervous for Soma, but he is not nervous at all. He says that cooking for actual customers is a lot more frightening than a Shokugeki. Go Soma!

So many people show up to watch Soma’s cook-off. There is even an announcer (who is really cute ^.^).

Soma is not the favored competitor. In fact, a majority of the audience wants Soma to lose after his “stunt” at the announcement.

Even Erina is there to watch!

The Shokugeki begins! Nikumi immediately begins carving a giant A-5 steak.

Meat perfection; cooked by a Meat Master.

After mincing a lot of onions, Soma finally reveals what type of meat he will be using.

Oh no! It’s discounted bargain meat! Will it be enough to defeat Nikumi’s prime A-5?

Nikumi is almost done cooking. Her techniques in cooking meat are so delicate and advance.

Nikumi’s dish is done!

It’s a bouquet of meat!

The judges are in love with the A-5 meat.

Soma’s turn. How will his dish compare to Nikumi’s?

It looks and smells really good, but how about its taste?

The judges love it! Especially the pickled plum sauce that Soma added to the rice.

The judges ask for seconds ^.^

Soma’s don is the perfect don – a balance between the rice and the meat, not overpowering one element.

Even Nikumi appreciates his dish.

Soma’s dish reminds Nikumi of her childhood – her dad had forced her to be more manly. Her dad wanted her to become a strong leader in order to eventually take over their family’s conglomerate.

Soma is the victor! He wins his first Shokugeki!

As decided before the Shokugeki, Nikumi must now join Don RS. Nikumi is starting to like Soma, so she’s nervous about going into the clubroom. But when she enters, something unexpected happens…

Soma didn’t actually join Don RS club! ^.^

At the start of the sixth episode of Food Wars, we see an intense scene – an attractive girl is bullying a cowering guy in a dark hallway. She convinces him to do something, but what?

The next morning, Soma and Yuki are woken by Isshiki. He asks them to help with Polar Star’s garden.

We see the other Polar Star students working on perfecting their crafts.

Soma asks why Megumi can’t make these type of dishes at school. It turns out that Megumi becomes really nervous in front of others, so it’s hard for her to demonstrate her cooking abilities in class.

Soma wants to join a school cooking club, so he and Megumi visit the bulletin board.

They decide to check out Don RS. They’re surprised to see that no one is in the club room except for one student!

The club leader is really sad because his club’s funds are being dwindled – Erina from the Elite Ten wants the don club to close down. Making matters worse, in order to receive the funds needed to stay afloat, the club leader was forced to agree to a Shokugeki with Ikumi Mito (Nikumi), the meat master.

Nikumi shows up at the club!

Out of respect for don, Shokugeki asks if he can do the Shokugeki. If he loses, he gets expelled. If he wins, Nikumi must join Don RS.

But does Soma know how to cook don??

Soma is going to have to face Nikumi’s A-5 meat, the highest grade and most premium type of meat. Her family owns one of the largest meat conglomerates in Japan.

After hours of testing, Soma still hasn’t found the perfect don to cook. This isn’t looking good, until…

Megumi helped Soma think of an idea! She reminded Soma of how he used honey for their school meat project, which sparked his culinary ingenuity once again.

Soma’s don dish will utilized finely-chopped onions and heavily pounded meat!

It’s super tender! But will it be enough to beat Mito-san’s A-5 meat?

If Soma loses, he’s expelled!

At the end of the last episode of Food Wars, Isshiki had unexpectedly challenged Soma to a cook off. At the start of the fifth episode, we see Isshiki’s creation – a beautifully cooked fish that perfectly captures the season’s delicacies. Soma is amazed.

Soma and Isshiki’s match is heated!

Everyone tastes Soma’s dish. It’s delicious! Isshiki is amazed that Soma knew a classic French technique – cooking a fish with oil on top. Soma explains that his Dad had taught him one day.

The decision is that the match is a draw.

The party goers begin to wake up and go back to their own rooms.

When everyone goes to the dining hall the next day for breakfast, they find Soma already there with his cooking gear.

Soma challenges Isshiki to another cook-off. This time, Soma asks to put Isshiki’s seventh seat on the line… ^.^

Meanwhile, there is an official Shokugeki going on at the school’s cooking hall.

The Chanko Research Society is challenging Erina because she, who is the youngest member of the Elite Ten, convinced the council to discontinue funding their club.

Erina wins the duel, consequently starting the demolition of the Chanko Research Society’s building.

At the end of the fifth episode, Isshiki predicts that Soma will forever change Totsuki ^.^
