At the start of the seventh episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo are transporting a shipment of herbicide to a nearby town.

The whole town has been outrun by vicious vines and plants that turn into monsters.

The village leaders beg Naofumi to save them.

It turns out that Kitamura had given the village a magical seed to solve their hunger issues. However, the seed created too powerful plants.

Naofumi’s shield skills allow him to destroy any plant that touches him.

Naofumi defeats the plant monsters and changes their seeds to produce beneficial produce.

Naofumi sells the extra produce and seeds to his trading friend, who requests Naofumi to deliver something to a hot spring village.

Raphtalia is jealous of Filo getting close to Naofumi.

Raphtalia and Filo both set out early in the morning to collect a rare egg and gem in the mountains to bring to Naofumi.

A boar attacks them!

Raphtalia and Filo find the nest, but the boar surprises them and destroys what they were looking for.

Although they were able to retrieve the rare gems and eggs, Raphtalia and Filo were able to trade the boar for money, which they used to buy a present for Naofumi.

At the start of the sixth episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo go to their local weaponry to inquire about new clothes for Filo. Because she constantly rips her clothes when she transforms, they need an outfit that can withstand her changes.

The slave trader puts a crest on Filo.

The three visit the town’s seamstress. The owner of the shop informs them that they’ll need magic thread for Filo’s new outfit.

The town’s magician can make their magic thread, but they’ll need to procure a rare gemstone.

On the search for the gems, a villager asks for a ride. His mother desperately needs medicine that he’s carrying. Naofumi agrees to help.

Naofumi is now being called the “Savior of the Heavenly Fowl.”

They encounter a group of ruffians. Filo and Raphtalia take care of them quickly.

In return for saving him, the traveler agrees to give Naofumi his “knowledge and connections” – knowledge pertaining to gems and magic and connections in the trading ring.

The magician joins them on their search for the gems. Naofumi learned where the gems might be.

They’re attacked! A spell is cast on them that makes them hear their worst thoughts from the people that they care most for.

They find a room full of the gems, but there is a mythical beast protecting them. They must fight the monster.

They successfully defeat the monster and collect the gems for Filo’s new outfit ^.^

At the start of the fifth episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, a Queen in a land far away is talking to a masked agent. They are talking about the kingdom that Naofumi and the other heroes are in.

The King is awarding the heroes for their valiant effort. But, when it comes to Naofumi’s turn, the King tries to prevent him from receiving his fair share of silver. Thankfully, the other two heroes intervene, allowing Naofumi to receive the minimum award.

Raphtalia receives another slave crest.

Naofumi also buys a monster egg from the slave trader. What could be inside?

Ever since saving the town of Lute, relatives of those saved are treating Naofumi nicely.

The egg cracks the next morning, and a baby bird appears!

Strangely, the bird is growing really fast…

Until it’s a giant bird!

Kitamura and Myne show up at the town of Lute and command the citizens to be taxed 50 silvers every time they leave and enter the village. The townsmen beg Naofumi to intervene. He agrees – the two will race with their bird and dragon around the village. The first to cross the village wins! ^.^

Myne’s soldiers try to interfere and help Kitamura win the race.

Even though there was outside interference, Naofumi wins the race!

And his bird grows even larger!

As his reward, Naofumi receives a carriage.

The three fall asleep by the fire.

When they wake up, the bird isn’t resting on Naofumi’s lap anymore…it’s a girl!

At the start of the fourth episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, the King is throwing a celebratory party for the heroes and their recent victory over the Wave. Naofumi is reluctantly there. But Raphtalia is doing her best to make her master feel happy.

But Kitamura confronts Naofumi about owning a slave and angrily challenges him to a duel to set Raphtalia free. Naofumi declines, but as he tries to leave the party, the King’s guards stop him. The King orders Naofumi to accept the duel.

The whole kingdom, including the Pope and King, watch Naofumi’s duel.

Kitamura is beating Naofumi at the start, but Naofumi begins outmaneuvering him with his shield techniques. In fact, Naofumi is winning the match!

When it looks like Naofumi is going to win the duel, Myne fires a magic shot at him. And she also uses her magic to strengthen Kitamura. Thanks to her interference, Kitamura wins the duel.

Naofumi angrily shouts about Myne’s interference, but everyone turns a blind eye.

It turns out that Myne is actually the King’s daughter!

As a result of Naofumi’s defeat, the King breaks the spell connecting Naofumi and Raphtalia. She is now freed.

Raphtalia is furious that they broke the bond between her and Naofumi.

The other heroes confront the King and Kitamura about Myne’s interference.

Raphtalia shows Naofumi the love and friendship that he’s been longing for.

And Raphtalia transforms into a young woman!

The next day, Naofumi and Raphtalia look out over the kingdom. Raphtalia made him a sandwich. Naofumi can taste it! And it tastes delicious! ^.^

Raphtalia explains that demi-humans mature quicker than humans.

At the start of third episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, Raphtalia and Naofumi and continue their training and preparation for the approaching Wave. They realize that they’ll need better equipment for the fight, so they go and visit their favorite weaponry.

Since the last episode, Raphtalia has really grown in courage. She’s not shy anymore and is really comfortable towards Naofumi.

The shop owner hints about something about demi-humans, but Raphtalia cuts him off before he finishes.

The shop owner will make custom armor for Naofumi.

At lunch, Raphtalia demands that Naofumi not treat her like a kid anymore.

Upon receiving his barbarian amor, Naofumi hears that there’s an hourglass in the church that tells when the next Wave will be.

At the church, they run into the other heroes. Kitamura gets friendly with Raphtalia, and warns her about the rumors of Naofumi.

It’s awkward between Raphtalia and Naofumi that night. Naofumi doesn’t want to tell her about the rumors, as no one believes him, anyway.

The next day is the day that the Wave is coming. All of the warriors are in the streets, preparing to be transported to the battlefield.

Regardless of the rumors, Raphtalia tells Naofumi that she will always be by his side as his sword.

The Wave has arrived! As the heroes go off to battle the boss, Naofumi notices that the Village of Lute is being destroyed and no one is helping it. He and Raphtalia rush off to aide the villagers.

As Naofumi fights off the monsters, he wonders why he’s risking his life for strangers.

Thankful for Naofumi and Raphtalia, the evacuated villagers return to help him fight.

All of a sudden fireballs rain from the sky. Naofumi has to quickly shield himself and Raphtalia. The attack is coming from the army. They didn’t care if the Shield Hero was there.

A monster appears behind the army! Naofumi saves them before they’re crushed.

A portion of the army has a change of heart and decides to assist Naofumi and Raphtalia.

The Wave is over! The three offensive heroes defeated the boss and ended the Wave.

The villagers are really thankful towards Naofumi and Raphtalia.

At the start of first episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, we see a young man and a small girl in a misty, mountainous land. It looks like they are playing with a ball. Who are they and where are they?

A young man wakes up in his bedroom. He must have been dreaming.

He says that while he is an otaku, he’s not a “shut-in.” When he needs something, he’s more than ready to venture out in the world. He walks to the local library.

Books fall from the shelves. As he picks them back up, one catches his eye: “The Records of the Four Cardinal Weapons.”

He flips through the novel and skims through the story. But wait! Half of the book is blank, and it starts to glow! There’s so much light now! What is going on?

The next thing he knows, he’s on the ground in what seems to be a stone castle. A group of priests are excited that their “summoning worked.”

There are three other guys around the same age as him. The priests let them know that they are the four heroes that legends have told about.

The other guys immediately start acting the part as a hero. They accept their mission, but demand a reward. They are so comfortable with their new reality already! Our protagonist looks outside the castle and sees a magical kingdom.

Each of the four heroes has his own unique weapon. Our protagonist can’t remove his shield. They are introduced to the king of the land.

King of Melromarc, Aultcray Melromarc XXXII.

One hero is Amaki Ren.

The second hero is Kitamura Motoyasu.

The third hero is Kawasumi Itsuki.

Our shield hero is ignored by the king.

The shield hero is Iwatani Naofumi, a twenty-year-old college student.

The king explains how four waves are coming. The first already came, and they underestimated it. Only the four heroes can defeat the waves and save the kingdom.

The heroes notice that they have Magic Status and stats!

But the four heroes can’t work together. Their weapons supposedly repel each other’s and inhibit experience growth.

The heroes all realize that they are from a different version of Japan.

And our shield hero realizes that the defense hero is normally known as the weakest.

The king has gathered brave warriors to aide the heroes. The warriors are allowed to choose which hero they want to accompany.

None of the warriors choose Naofumi…

It’s because word spread around the kingdom that the shield hero didn’t know anything about their land.

A very attractive girl agrees to help Naofumi.

The three heroes receive 600 coins, but because Naofumi only has one partner, he gets to receive 800 coins.

The attractive girl is Myne Suphia.

Myne takes Naofumi to the best weaponry shop she knows.

 

Naofumi tries out a few of the swords, but each one he touches zaps him! He can’t wield a sword, because he is the shield hero. He must play only on defense, for the most part.

The shop owner can tell that his shield has power, but can’t identify how much.

They buy Naofumi some armor, but Myne asks the shop owner how much he would pay to buy it back. Strange?

Naofumi trains out in the field against low-power monsters.

Naofumi can feed his shield items.

Myne talks Naofumi into buying her amor, which is four times the price of Naofumi’s!

The two eat out at a pub. Myne tries to persuade Naofumi to drinking wine with her, but he refuses and goes straight to bed.

 

Naofumi wakes up the next morning and finds all of his money and armor have been stolen!

He rushes out to the hallway. The king’s men are waiting for him and demand that he come to the king’s court.

Oh no!

Myne has lied to the whole kingdom that Naofumi tried to do inappropriate things to her! How could she!

Alone and exiled, Naofumi just wants to go back to his world. The king informs him that new heroes can’t be summoned until all four heroes die. But the king assures the heroes that they can go home after they defeat the waves.

The shop owner shows sympathy towards Naofumi. Naofumi, now realizing that he’s on his own, changes to a more serious personality. He knows what he needs to do to survive.

A gang of goons request to “join” Naofumi party.

They try to steal from him, but Naofumi can defend himself now.

Walking in a dark alley, a mysterious man pops out and talks to Naofumi.

He tells Naofumi that he has what he needs.

The mysterious man is a slave seller, and asks Naofumi to buy one of his.

Naofumi buys a demi-human, which is half racoon, but is also the weakest slave for sale.
